Handling Heretics

How should we deal with heretics?

A boot or a Bible?

Who decides on who are heretics?

Apologetics is "reasoned arguments or writings in justification of something, typically a theory or religious doctrine."

If we name a site "Christian Apologetics" but replace "reasoned arguments" with removing and blocking other Christians with a different understanding of the Scriptural data, is it really Christian Apologetics?

Perhaps it should be called "Creedal Postulations" instead.

If someone is booted for breaking the rules of the group, I can understand.

But when administrators of a discussion group publicly and gleefully banter about ousting heretics, it reveals a petty substitute for "reasoned arguments" and a lack of exegetical evidence.

Paul was considered a heretic, but his "heresy" was based on Scripture:

Acts 24:14: But this I confess unto thee, that after the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the law and in the prophets:

Error is overcome by truth, not by demagoguery.   Silencing the question is not an answer.

CI will continue to gain adherents, not only because of the patient efforts of CI apologists who persist in sharing the Scriptural proof, but also because of ECT defenders who combat it by censorship out of fear of its persuasiveness.

It's quite a revealing contrast.

Who determines who is a heretic and how do they determine?

It seems that a heretic isn't necessarily or exclusively someone who holds to a divergent doctrine.

Notice the words "foolish... contentions... strivings... unprofitable... vain... subverted... sinneth... condemned" in the following instruction about heretics.

Titus 3:8 This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men.

9 But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain.

10 A man that is an heretick after the first and second admonition reject;

11 Knowing that he that is such is subverted, and sinneth, being condemned of himself.
